Kolla's Digital Product Passport Solution

Dec 10, 2024

We have adapted our microsite platform to automatically create branded microsites and QR codes. By accessing the right information from a company’s database or databases, we can gather, sort and communicate that information in an easily-digestible way. Our solution doesn't just help you fulfil legal DPP obligations but can also support and enhance your brand.

  • Automated DPP creation Easily create and publish Digital Product Passports for all your products by integrating our platform with your existing databases.
  • Multilingual accessibility Automatically translate DPP content into your customers’ native languages, ensuring global reach and compliance.
  • Custom content and design Turn DPP into an opportunity to enhance the brand experience and improve customer loyalty. Customise your DPPs with tailored content.

How we do it

1. Understand your brand We start by understanding your brand story, tone of voice and look and feel in order to create a master DPP template for your company that aligns with your story. You may want to create this with your own in-house team too. Either way, we start here. Already here we’ll start looking at what must be in your digital product passport as well as what else could go in there to add value to your business and brand.

2. Build a template When we know what the master template should do and what it should look like, we build it in Kolla. Kolla is a microsite platform (think of a microsite as a ‘mini homepage for every product you have’). Originally, Kolla was designed as a no-code platform so that anyone, in the space of minutes, could create their own microsite. It still works like this but we’ve modified it so that you can make and update thousands of digital product passports in one click.

3. Connect the data We then map out where the relevant data is in your systems. Do you use a PIM system or ERP system or or is it a mix of the two. When we know where the data is, we connect it to the Kolla platform via en API-integration. When the connections are made, we can then automatically create a digital product passport for every product you have.

4. Automate the DPP production In reality, it can look like this. You have a product image in your PIM system and we create a rule that the primary product image lands in the hero space of the microsite’s main page. This is one piece of dynamic data then that we fetch from your database and let it drop into our platform. The same goes for all the environmental information. CO2 emissions is a data attribute, raw materials is another attribute etc. All of these are then fetched from your database and a rule is created so they land in the right place on your microsite, automatically.

There may also be some static information that applies across the board, to all of your digital product passports. This can either be fetched from your database or put straight into Kolla. If the dynamic data is updated in your systems, it will be updated in Kolla also. In this way, you just keep your data in the same place as always and we fetch it for you. There’s no need to input the data into another tool.

5. Create the QR-codes The QR-code for every microsite is also created automatically. We’re currently following the GS1 Digital Link Standard so the url that each code is linked to isi using this international standard. If you have another standard, then we can adjust our platform to meet your needs.

Kolla and DPP

Fulfilling EU requirements is one thing but to turn DPP into an opportunity, you need to make your digital product passports a brand experience. Kolla can automatically create on-brand microsites with both inspirational material, EU compliant information and more.

By integrating into your PIM, e-commerce or business management system, we can automatically take the relevant product information and place it into branded templates created in the Kolla platform. The end result is potentially thousands of unique on-brand microsites automatically updated, each with a unique QR-code, providing your audience with the right EU compliant information but also inspiration to keep them interested after scanning and providing you with a user-friendly system to keep your DPPs up to date. In addition, the Kolla platform automatically translates content into the mobile phone user’s language settings. We also provide creatives that can create customised content and design for you.
